Family Day Homes
A family day home is a private residence in which a child care provider offers care, supervision and developmental activities for pre-school and school-aged children. Hemel House monitors the number and ages of children in the home.
Hemel House screens and approves each day home for quality in programming, nutrition, safety and hygiene.
Providers are trained in First-Aid and child care, must adhere to all provincial and agency regulations and are provided with monthly training meetings. They plan their environment for the safety, stimulation and well-being of each individual child.
History
Claudine started Hemel House in 1982. She was a young mother and teacher struggling to find care for her one-year-old son. Frustrated with the lack of quality child care choices she decided to practice her teaching skills at home. Her licensed day home was the birth of Hemel House.
As more parents chose family day home care for their children, Claudine responded to their need by founding the Hemel House agency. Her goal was to create quality child care for children, a strong support program for day home providers, and educational support to help families develop healthy relationships. Hemel House has grown and continues to meet the needs of families because of the hard work from the caring Hemel House staff and day home providers.
